MIDDLE PRONG LITTLE RIVER CASCADE

Canon EOS REBEL XS, Promaster 19-35 lens @ 19 mm, ISO 100, f/20, 13 sec.
My final post from my extremely successful photog excursion at Middle Prong Little River in Tremont of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.  This was essentially the first shot I lined up that morning.  The large rock wall to right of the frame is actually Tremont Rd that splits off from Little River Rd which runs from Cades Cove to Gatlinburg, TN.
3 weeks ago, while shooting down past this spot, I slipped and dunked my camera through the river. This was a terrifying experience. Fortunately, with the help of one of my cousins suggesting to put it in a bowl of dry rice, the camera dried and is fully functional.
You can imagine how nervous I was this morning when I started trudging across this part of the river. Especially when there were spots that were thigh high and a very quick current.
I did make it across successfully and when I arrived at this spot was very excited.  The old fallen tree in the foreground really leads into the frame perfectly and I really love the roots sticking up out of the water.  It was overcast all morning so I gave in to the elements and just let the shutter speeds go with the hope of the swirling water creating eddys. If you look over to the right of the waterfall you can see a slight one forming.  Another reason I was happy with the long exposures is the glassy smoothed over look of the water. This look allowed the rocks underneath to have some detail and also reflected the waterfall and sky in the bottom foreground.
On Google+, my friend and incredible photographer Eric Leslie has started Waterfall Wednesday and I purposely held on to this image until Wednesday for that reason. Check out Waterfall Wednesday and join in. I love it.

  1. Really like the composition of this one Jerry, the fallen tree makes a perfect foreground element and the rock wall frames the right side nicely. Great shot!

  3. This is my favorite of yours this week, so far, Jerry! It's very crisp and clear, really bringing out all the wonder of the area. Top drawer shot, my friend!
